This mean time away from family and long hard hours of trailing on the road. During a political campaign the main goal is to win the election in which the candidate is running for. The drawback is that both opposing parties will be hard at work taking the necessary steps to victory, and in the end there is only one winner that is awarded. This fact alone makes the process extremely stressful and full of pressure. Grassroots means that he used the support of American citizens and did not use money from lobbyists or organizations with special interests. This was historical because in the United States most political figures use money given by special interest groups in exchange for a specific policy change. This is how politics get corrupted and how the people or citizens of a country are paid a disservice. Political campaigns can be very fun and exciting, especially when they are history making like the one listed above. However, when someone loses a political campaign is very hard to see them this way.
